Stonehenge is combined with a tour to the picturesque towns, villages and countryside of England's Cotswolds. Full of natural beauty and charm, the Cotswolds remain largely unspoilt and offer a glimpse into what rural life was like in the past. Our first stop though is the ancient Neolithic circle at Stonehenge on Wiltshire's Salisbury Plain.

Marker pillars rising from the ground.

Before the main event we'll take you to see Woodhenge where you'll see pillars marking the positions of Neolithic wooden posts which have long since rotted away. It's an important World Heritage Site and consists of six concentric ovals of standing posts, surrounded by a bank and ditch.

The stones at dawn under a red sky.

Stonehenge began as a burial area over 4500 years ago and has changed many times during this period, with stones being added and the site being reformed several times. Part of the changes made to the site were the addition of the bluestones. These stones which were mined in Wales and were dragged to Stonehenge using the limited technologies of the era. This would have taken a large number of people and tremendous organisation.

On site is the fabulous Stonehenge Visitor Centre where you can further explore the mysteries of the ancient stones. Here you'll enjoy world-class exhibitions and multi-media displays. Outside there are reconstructed Neolithic houses where if you might see ancient crafting demonstrations and bread-making using prehistoric techniques.

To maximise your time on this action-packed itinerary, we recommend enjoying a delicious lunch on the move inside your comfortable vehicle. This ensures you won't miss a thing as we head next to the rolling hills and storybook villages of the Cotswolds.

Old Manse Hotel through weeping willow branchlets.

The Cotswolds offer a picture-perfect escape into an unspoilt world of golden limestone cottages, rolling hills, and tranquil streams. At its heart lies Bourton-on-the-Water, affectionately known as the "Venice of the Cotswolds." Straddling the peaceful River Windrush, this quintessentially English village is famous for its elegant low stone bridges, charming historic cottages, and an enchanting, detail-perfect 1930s replica model village.

Burford—also on the Windrush—is known as the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds and dates back to the Saxon period. The ancient church of St John the Baptist and the fifteenth century houses in the town square are a popular toiurist attraction as is the Baroque style Methodist church.

The Old Mill and pond.

Founded by Norman lords, Stow-on-the-Wold is situated on the old Roman road—the Fosse Way. The large historic Market Square lays testament to the town's commercial past. The medieaval St Edward's Church is a popular visit with its ancient yew trees at the north porch.

We'll also show you The Slaughters. Upper Slaughter and Lower Slaughter (with its gorgeous nineteenth century Old Mill) are both situated on the River Eye and are typical of picturesque Cotswold villages. Interesting architecture to seen here too.

Our experienced tour guides will help you make the most of your tour to Stonehenge and the Cotswolds. Travel in chauffeur-driven comfort through the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire and the Cotswolds. We can pick you up from your hotel, the airport or port.
