Marlborough is the perfect destination to combine a bit of culture with a dash of relaxation. It’s a picturesque town in Wiltshire, on the old coaching route midway between London and Bristol. The town recently celebrated its 800th anniversary and it’s steeped in history. Visitors should go to the beautiful 17th century merchant's house, built after the Great Fire of Marlborough in 1653 and to the magnificent town hall with its Renaissance style architecture.

You’ll also enjoy the thriving markets, and if you time your trip well, there’s a Jazz Festival in July and a Food Festival in October. Plus you’ll love the continental feel, with pavement cafes giving the area a real buzz… this is the perfect place to unwind with a cuppa. And the scones are almost compulsory.

Lockeridge Dene

Nestled near the charming town of Marlborough, Lockeridge Dene offers a tranquil escape and a surprising connection to the world-famous Stonehenge. This picturesque woodland area is believed to be the source of the sarsen stones, the massive grey pillars that define Stonehenge's outer ring.

Wansdyke

Stretching for 60 miles, and partly crossing the Marlborough Downs, the Wansdyke is an enigmatic earthwork built around 5th-6th century AD. Some say it defended against Saxon invaders, perhaps even King Arthur himself. This historical mystery sparks imaginations to this day.

Merlin's Mound
