Amesbury is a charming town in Wiltshire, set in beautiful rural Wiltshire on the banks of the River Avon. It is renowned for its rich history, evident in its ancient monuments and landmarks, and its proximity to the enigmatic Stonehenge. The town is surrounded by ancient landscape and was founded in 979 when the original Abbey was established.

The town is a vibrant community with a friendly atmosphere. The town hosts regular events throughout the year, including the Amesbury Festival, a celebration of local arts, crafts, and food. Amesbury's weekly market showcases the town's culinary delights and local produce.

The town's history dates back to the Mesolithic period, with evidence of human habitation as early as 8820 BC. Amesbury has been a continuous settlement throughout the centuries, witnessing various eras and civilizations. In the 10th century, it became the site of a Witenagemot, a council of Anglo-Saxon nobles.

The town is famous for the 'Amesbury Archer'—an Early Bronze Age man whose grave was discovered in 2002 during excavations at the site of a new housing development in Amesbury, Wiltshire, England. The grave was found about three miles from the famous stone circle of Stonehenge. The Amesbury Archer's grave is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Britain. It has provided us with a wealth of information about life in Early Bronze Age Britain. The grave goods suggest that the Archer was a wealthy and powerful man, and he may have been a leader or a metalworker.

Amesbury is inextricably linked to Stonehenge, the iconic prehistoric monument that lies just outside the town. The purpose and origins of Stonehenge remain shrouded in mystery, but its presence has undoubtedly shaped Amesbury's identity. Visitors from around the globe flock to the town to experience the awe-inspiring grandeur of Stonehenge.

Beyond Stonehenge, Amesbury boasts a wealth of historical and cultural attractions. The Amesbury Museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the Mesolithic to the present day, showcasing the town's remarkable heritage. St Mary's Church, a Grade I listed building, stands as a testament to the town's medieval past.
